My week 9th Jan-15th Jan

Kate from Our littles sins has been writing a week in review post for a few months now. I have admired her discipline in doing them so religiously and I really enjoy reading them as our littlest bubs, both boys, are very close in age and our lives have so many similarities. She has encouraged others to join her in documenting our weeks so the days, weeks, months don't merge into mehness.  I must admit that I often have no idea what I did yesterday, so this task is definitely for me. So here goes...

Monday 9th
Woke up still buzzing from running 6km in fun run.
We had family staying with us over the weekend. We took them to a cafe at the beach for morning tea before they hit the road for the drive back to Melbourne.
Got a quick family snap, but Miss A was feral tired and wasn't in a cooperative mood. Hence why I haven't posted it here.
Decided to ditch the housework and grocery shopping and went to Port Fairy to see my mum and dad, who are caravaning at the camping ground.

This is Miss A wearing my Dad's hat. She thinks she's Jessie from Toy Story.
Baby J a bit tired on the way home in the car.
Miss A took this one of herself.

Tuesday 10th
Did the grocery shopping and had a mosey around Kmart.Coffees, babycino's and biscuits. What we do every time we do the grocery shopping together.  I really miss being able to go to a big shopping centre every so often.  Our little local shopping centre really doesn't cut it.  There is a Gloria Jeans but sadly no sushi.
Big tidy up and many many loads of washing done.
Made Kate's Santiago Almond cake. It's gluten free and I highly recommend it. I don't have a thermomix so did it the old school way. I didn't have any icing sugar either so used caster sugar instead. Worked a treat.

Miss A is getting very good at making pictures with the ABC Kids Art Maker App. Here are some of her masterpieces...

Baby J is getting very good at tearing everything out of the cupboards.  I resort to putting him in the highchair and giving him tiny teddies so that I can pack the dishwasher without him climbing in. I am going to bad parent hell.

Wednesday 11th
Had lunch out at a place that we hadn't been before. An old school type place. I'd fear for your cholesterol levels if you ate there every day. Ripper omelettes and milk shakes though.

Went to my sisters house. She has two girls, 3 and 5. The girls had a play while our house got cleaned (the shame, we have a fortnightly cleaner). We went home to our now clean and tidy house.

My brother appeared at 5pm and stayed for dinner.

After dinner we all went to the local athletics club who are holding 5km runs over summer on a Wednesday night.  Steve Monaghetti was there to do a clinic and to run. He's 50 this year. We are all getting old. My brother who isn't at his fittest at the moment decided on the spur of the moment to run with my friend and I. It nearly killed him, but he dug deep and we crossed the finish line together. I really enjoyed the run and the endorphins. My mood feels elevated and I feel centred and calm dealing with the intensity of the kids emotions. Or maybe it's because Mr J is home and I am getting more sleep...

Thursday 12th
We went to see The Muppets at the cinema. Ran into my sister, nieces, friends and their kids. I think the adults enjoyed the movie more than the kids. Some very funny bits.

Had a late lunch out afterwards. Purchased the Toy Story trilogy from Target on the way back to the car. Miss A is totally into Toy Story now. She now wants a Jessie party (for her birthday in July) rather than a Barbie party (she doesn't have any) which Mr J and I are delighted about.

Decide to go for a drive so kids can sleep in the car and end up back in Port Fairy. Visit mum and dad's caravan and stay for dinner. Should have eaten outside though as Baby J up-ended a big bowl of beetroot. Whoops.

Seeing as Miss A had a sleep during the day she doesn't go to sleep until 10pm.

On the grass at Port Fairy.
Friday 13th
A lesson in accidental parenting. We forgot to put a nappy on Miss A before she went to bed. She come into our room at 6am in the morning to tell us that she had knickers on. You changed from your nappy we ask her? No I had knickers on all night she says. I hold my breath thinking of the wet bed. No my knickers are not wet says Miss A. WTF?  Miss A now wants to wear knickers to bed. Our girl is growing up!

We take the kids to the pool for a swim. Miss A has come so far in the last few months. She can now put her head under water independently. Baby J loves the water and he charms as many people as he can, smiling at everyone who will look his way.

We have started having home made pizza for dinner on Fridays. We all love pizza. I also like to have a glass of wine or two, to mark the start of the weekend. It's very easy for days to merge into each other as when Mr J is home he is home, so we don't have a sense of weekends and weekdays. This has especially been the case as our child care centre has closed down for three weeks. We are looking forward to it re-opening next week so we can have some time to recharge our batteries, especially Mr J as Miss A is extremely demanding of his attention when he is home, making up for lost time. Miss A is fully into imaginative play and wants to play mums and dads, princesses, beauty and the beast, schools... Mr J is her favourite playmate. I am not quite as enthusiastic.

We make "mess" for dessert with meringues, berries, cream, yogurt and chocolate. A winner.

I download Diptic and start playing with collages. Also have a look at Picnik. It's so time consuming. It's something I really want to learn. Will I ever find the time?  Advice most welcome.

Saturday 14th
Pop out for groceries. Not much else going on today.

Okay another daggy secret time. I love to do jigsaws. I pulled one out and set it up on the dining table before our guests arrived, basically to give people something to do when we were having some down time. It's a crappy cheap one and Mr J and I have been plugging away at it all week. We are up to the boring background bits now. It's going to be a had slog to finish it, but we will.Deb from Bright and Precious has recommended Charles Wysocki jigsaws and I have been looking into buying one online.

There is no one in the world that loves me more than this little man right now.

Miss A being her exuberant self.
Sunday 15th
Quiet day at home.
I go for a run in the afternoon. I run twice a week. That's enough for this sore body.
I organise my mum and dad, who are now home, to look after the kids for a couple of hours so we can go out for dinner.
We drop them off at 5.30 and go for a drink at a local pub and then go out for dinner. I have cherry chocolate mousse trifle for dessert (and gluten free at that). So good.
It's so nice to get out with Mr J and not have to parent. We decide that we need to do this more often. And try to find some mates to join us sometimes.

And because I am writing this on a Tuesday I am linking up with Jess form Diary of a SAHM for I Blog on Tuesdays! Thanks Jess, it's good to be back.

Our Baby Js are so similar! I have mine in the high chair to prevent my dishwasher being destroyed too!

I love reading about your week and am so glad you did this. Keep doing it, okay? 'Cause you know, I don't think you've committed to enough!

So glad you liked the cake, another awesome recipe to come. That ABC app is very cool. Need to look into it. Chatterbox would love it.

A Jessie party would be so lovely. Don't you hate when they sleep in the day and then party till late!? Kids!!

Pizza and mess - what a delightful combination and the perfect way to welcome the weekend.

Ick, hate it when childcare centres close! Don't those people know we need their services!?

Love that you do jigsaws and run and I too would love to learn how Picnik or Photoshop or other such fabbo things work. But can barely get a post up let alone anything else!

Happiest of weeks to you! xx

Busy week! Love the pics. We have the ABC app and little Bloss adores it. She is obsessed with making the art and then turning her creations into little playschool films by recording her voice.

Happy Days!

There are so many apps and software I want to learn too. I'm finding the iPhone apps so quick and intuitive that most of my collages and other edits are probably going to all be done on the iPhone or iPad till I get my act together and learn it on the computer.

As to the swimming, do your kids take lessons or do you go independently. We were doing lessons with Miss T but given the inconsistency of teachers, we're not sure well continue with formal lessons. Which makes me question if I'll ever get bub into the pool since too.

Don't you just love the pure, unadulterated adoration little children have for life? The pics say it all - they adore their mum even more!

What a great insight into your week Lee!
I think I need some of that cake, it looks delicious.
I think we are both going to bad parent hell, I actually bribed Skye to get in the car today with a massive Killer Python lolly, the shame.
Congrats on the fun run too, what a massive effort x

Love it!

Two things; you are not goings to bad parent hell. Putting your child in the high hair with tiny teddies is a GREAT idea.

Secondly, a fortnightly cleaner? Seriously!?
Get her to come every week instead; that's a much better idea!

What a great wind up Lee!! I agree with Jess, you are definitely not going to bad parent hell. YOu are going to genius parent heaven.
And I would die for a fortnightly cleaner. But My mum moved to town so I guess I've got one for free (cough cough).
Roo is being particularly demanding on Pal as well, lately, and he is home every night, so don't beat yourselves up about Mr J walking away! It's the age.
Oh, and how awesome is Miss A for going to knickers at night time!!??!!

That's a great thing to do! Sometimes I wish I had documented the time when my kids were really little....sometimes I look at a photo and I just can't remember us doing that!

How did you remember all of that Lee? I've still got baby brain and mine are 7 and 5! I can't remember what I did or said 5 minutes ago! A great way to record what went on during the week, even if it was KMart and a baby cino. A great read.

Ah this is such a lovely thing to do. It sounds like you had lots of fun! I'm doing a written version of this as part of my Day Zero Project, but it's really nice to share with other people and get an insight into their lives x
